The new Ford F-150 is the main event of the year in the American automotive world. After all, the F-Series has been leading the local sales rankings for many years, and by a wide margin from crossovers and traditional passenger cars. For example, last year, 897 thousand such cars were sold! High competition forces Ford, GM and FCA to regularly update their pickups, and now it's Ford's turn — the life cycle of the outgoing generation model, which has been produced for six years, is coming to an end. The new F-150 is already the fourteenth generation, and it is the first time it has got a hybrid modification.
Despite the relatively modest changes in the design, almost all the exterior panels of the pickup are new. The Ford F-150 will be available in six different trim levels, and as always, the manufacturer offers extensive customization options, including two-tone body paint, a wide choice of wheels, and eleven (!) grille options (with active louvers to improve aerodynamics). As before, there are cars in the range with a single-row," one-and-a-half " and two-row cab, the latter at Ford is called SuperCrew.
The interior with the change of generation also retained the usual architecture of the front panel, although there are enough changes. The rich versions have a virtual dashboard, a 12-inch touch-screen tablet of the Sync 4 media system and a massive central tunnel, on which the "automatic" selector and a wide "working surface" (as it is called by the developers) are located, designed to make life easier for owners who are forced to spend a lot of time behind the wheel of a pickup truck.
However, buyers of pickups in the United States are a conservative audience, so simple pickup options still have analog devices, a modest multimedia display, and an automatic poker on the steering column, and instead of a central tunnel, you can install an additional seat, the back of which, when folded, forms a table with cup holders.
The range of engines in general has remained the same and consists of V6 3.3 and V8 5.0 gasoline atmospherics, EcoBoost 2.7 and 3.5 turboshaft engines, as well as a three-liter V6 turbodiesel. However, the F-150 can now be ordered with a hybrid powerplant dubbed the PowerBoost. It is based on a V6 3.5 EcoBoost engine, a 47 hp electric motor and a 1.5 kW lithium-ion traction battery. Of course, on pure electricity, such a pickup truck will not go far, but engineers say that the hybrid F-150 will be able to travel more than 1,120 km on one tank, as well as carry trailers weighing 5.4 tons.
Also, the new pickup truck has an expanded set of active safety systems Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0 with auto-braking and pedestrian recognition functions, a rear-view camera, a parking assistant with a trailer, high-beam control and other electronic assistants. In addition, the F-150 can now be ordered with the Active Drive Assist autopilot, which operates on more than 160 thousand kilometers of tracks in the United States and Canada. The system allows the driver to fully release the steering wheel, provided that they keep their eyes on the road: for control, a cabin camera is installed that monitors the driver's gaze.
